At present, there are many types of printing inks in the process of screen printing for sign making. Common inks can generally be divided into metal, plastic, and common screen printing inks. So when selecting ink (printing material), it is necessary to choose a dedicated label screen printing ink based on the actual profile, in order to achieve twice the result with half the effort in production. The following is an introduction to several silk screen inks used in label production:
1. Baking enamel:
It is a single liquid formula that undergoes cross-linking when heated, with good storage function and can be stored for 6 months to a year. It has good smoothness, wear resistance, chemical resistance, and weather resistance, making it the most widely used. Alkyd, acrylic acid, and polyester have these characteristics. Epoxy resin has a tendency to crack and pulverize, and is usually not used in the field. However, it is dry and fast, and has chemical corrosion resistance properties. Alkyd enamel has balanced physical properties, such as chemical resistance and weather resistance, formability, hardness and gloss, and is widely used for painting metal surfaces, such as large and medium-sized transportation vehicles, mechanical and electrical equipment, and other industrial products that are not easy to bake.
2. Air drying enamel:
It is commonly made from drunk acid and needs to be cured with oxygen in the air. The function of drunken acid enamel depends on the type and quantity of use. The longer the dry time of paint, the longer the dry time of enamel. Paints with long drying periods usually have good durability when subjected to drying speed. These paints are mostly used for outdoor metal signage.
3. Dissolved and evaporated ink:
Relying solely on solvent volatilization to achieve dryness, the final performance of the coating depends on the inherent properties of the polymer before being formulated into a liquid. This type of polymer is rich in thermoplastic acrylic acid, and screen printing inks with volatile components are often susceptible to dissolution hazards. Some acrylic acids, which are insoluble in gasoline and alcohol, are not easily fused on the film surface. Therefore, inks mainly composed of thermoplastic acrylic acid, ethylene, and other soluble polymers are mostly used on the substrate of plastic signs.
4. Dual liquid ink:
Common ones are epoxy resin or polyurethane, although there are many other types. The dual liquid system that is often used in materials is the most accurate choice for energy conservation. Its coating quality is high, but mixing is not convenient. In addition, it should also be selected according to the use of the product. If the product is used outdoors and needs some flexibility, then aliphatic hydrocarbon based Ethyl formate ink can be selected. The dual liquid epoxy resin ink and baking enamel have basically the same usage function, but their formability is not good enough.
5. Ink additives:
Like other inks, the screen printing ink used for metal signage also contains additives. During production, a small amount of chemical agents need to be added to improve the performance of the ink film, which has the function of accelerating or triggering curing. At the same time, it can also make bubbles burst, uniform ink quality, and avoid film formation. During production, it is necessary to mix the additives and ink in proportion according to the actual situation to achieve the best production effect.
